Drs. Shah, Jain Discuss CAR-T Cell Therapy Advances at SOHO 2024

In this video interview from the Twelfth Annual Meeting of the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO), Bijal Shah, MD, of the Moffitt Cancer Center and Nitin Jain, MD, of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, discuss the latest developments in chimeric antigen therapy (CAR) T-cell therapy in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). They also talk about how cancer treatment has evolved from traditional chemotherapy to the cutting-edge use of CAR-T cells and bispecific antibodies.

Drs. Shah and Jain explained the current use of  Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved CAR-T therapies in patients with relapsed or refractory disease, and how these treatments bring new hope to those who have exhausted other options. They also address toxicity management and the survival outcomes for patients who undergo CAR-T therapy.

Looking forward, the experts highlight new advancements in allogeneic CAR-T products, which could improve treatment access, and natural killer (NK) cell therapies as another promising approach in immunotherapy. They also explore combination strategies, such as using CAR-T with bispecific antibodies, to improve treatment outcomes. Additionally, they discuss how innovations like in vivo CAR-T therapy could change the way treatments are delivered, making them more accessible and effective for a wider range of patients.
