Gwen Nichols, MD, chief medical officer of Blood Cancer United, discusses generational financial toxicity in oncology, particularly in pediatric acute leukemia care, and the critical need for healthcare reform.

Dr. Nichols also addressed the household impact of rising care costs, the role of Blood Cancer United’s research program, “Equity in Access,” in testing data-driven solutions for lawmakers to tackle healthcare reform, and the ethical challenges posed by the high price of novel therapies, including cell and gene therapies.

She also highlighted how individual participation in online advocacy can drive the policy changes necessary to protect patient access to life-saving innovation.
