In this preview of the SOHO 2026 acute lymphoblastic leukemia session, John DiPersio, MD, PhD, president of the Society of Hematologic Oncology, provides an overview on the current state of treatment in ALL, including how risk stratification and management have changed over the past five years due to novel immunotherapies like CAR T cells and bispecific therapies.
The ALL session has topics such as CNS relapse, Philadelphia chromosome-positive ALL, CAR T-cell therapy, novel agents and the evolving role of chemotherapy in frontline treatment. The session will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 8:30 to 11:41 am.
Dr. DiPersio, who is the director of the Center for Gene and Cellular Immunotherapy at Washington University School of Medicine, also covers cross-specialty efforts led by pediatric groups like Charles Mulligan, MBBS (Hons), MSc, MD, and St. Jude’s Children Hospital to decode transcriptional subsets, pointing to international trials across the United States, Europe, and China evaluating off-the-shelf allogeneic products and targeted interventions.
“We’re getting close to where we were for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia, where we can actually treat and cure patients with acute leukemia without ever exposing them to any kind of radiation or chemotherapy, which represents an enormous step forward for the treatment of these devastating diseases, he said. “I think this is an exciting time for the treatment of B-cell ALL.”
